Installation of exhibition book-stands with Christian literature

Bible Society tries to possibly better inform its people of spiritual literature distributed by the Society. One of the most convenient ways of making acquaintance with Biblical literature may be organization of exhibition book-stands at most visited places, e.g. in libraries, museums etc. Short annotation to every book allows to get information of any book novelty, and to arouse interest in it among people, which would urge many Byelorussian inhabitants to reading of the Holy Scripture. By every stand there is a Visitors Response Book that informs us of readers' opinions, their remarks and proposals.

Popularization of the Word of God among all strata of the population of our country is the high priority task of the Bible Society. Aiming at making Christian literature known and accessible to them that live in the remote parts of Belarus, we develop our collaboration with the church-planters ministering in different towns and villages. Vladimir Bessonau is one of them. His place of ministry is the town of Verkhnyedwinsk, situated in the northern Belarus, the land of forests and lakes. What picturesque surroundings are there! But outward beauty of nature stands in the stark contract to inward nature of the people inhabiting this land. This is the most atheistic part of our country, the result of the decades of communist godlessness. The local are mostly not acceptive to the Word of God, and the Bible is taken as something dangerous. It is very difficult to reach the hearts of the people with God’s Word, and this is what Vladimir is striving for. He works for the Lord faithfully and doesn’t get disheartened, using every opportunity of telling the people about God.
So on April 7 and 8 Bible Days were held at the central library of Verkhnyedwinsk town. The books exhibited had been presented by the Bible Society. Vladimir Bessonau said it was very important to have the books exhibited in the town library. The locals grow circumspect when it comes to spiritual literature; they used to classify it “genuine” and “not genuine”, and the fact that the event had taken place in a state-run library had effect. Nothing dangerous with the books if the library let them be exhibited, must have thought the people attending the reading hall and stopping near the stands to have a look at the various editions (photo). The Bibles and New Testaments in different types and languages, dictionaries, reference books, etc. formed the exposition at the stand. The literature aroused the visitors’ genuine interest. During those two days the lectures on the following topics were held:
1. Is the Bible God’s Word?
2. How was the Bible written?
3. How was the Bible preserved to our days?
4. Is the Bible trustworthy today?
The auditory of every lecture was at least 20 people. After the lectures the comers were not in a hurry to break up. They exchanged their opinions, discussed the topics just heard. The words of the Director of the library may serve as a conclusion: “The Bible is an excellent book, worthy of reading and studying”. We are thankful to the Lord for this exhibition, for every person having come to the exhibition, and we hope that the seeds sown in the people’s hearts will produce a rich harvest of faith and love in due time.
