Aim of the project:
Reaching disabled children with the message of God's love
Description:
More than 29 thousands of invalid children are there in Belarus at the present time. About four thousands of kids up to 18 are declared invalids every year. The main reason why the children become disabled is birth defects. Every year about 800 kids are born with birth defects of heart and blood circulation system. Some 10 000 kids in Belarus are now in acute need of surgical treatment. Diseases of nervous system and psychical disorders also often result in invalidity. According to the statistics, some 95% of the children are raised in families, and the rest are the inmates of the special boarding schools. To support the children and their parents there had been established the “Help to invalid children” Association, which unites about four thousands families. Providing psychological and social help, the Association gives the poor children an opportunity to get adapted to this world and take part in the social life of the society. The parents of the invalids are under permanent stress, which is why giving them support is among the activities of the Association. Apart from the objective difficulties of upbringing they strain every nerve to manage, the parents suffer from the fear of their poor kids’ future. This fear can only be conquered by the faith. Christ is able to heal the souls of these children, and help their parents. In the last years the Bible Society has begun helping the boarding schools for retarded children. The sets of the books for colouring “God World Around Us” and the Christian ABC published by the BS were given to some of the boarding schools. Hopefully this literature will be of help in the matter of developing mental abilities of the poor kids. We actively cooperate with the Christian doctors working in the children’s hospitals, and ministering to the children and their parents. Their words are of great power, as the parents look upon them as lifesavers for their children. So we seek to help them so that they might tell the patients the message about Christ as well as alleviate physical sufferings.
