Project background:
Looking at how things go as concerns the Belarusian families, it is obvious that the situation is critical. Today we have encountered with degrading of morality and devaluation of family values, once so solid. The number of parents indifferent to their own children and unwilling to make efforts to build up their families is growing at an alarmingly high rate. Low income, stresses and inferiority complex resulted from incapacity of parents to maintain their families at a decent level - all these factors of course contribute to the downfall of so many Belarusians. They get lost to all parental feelings, fall into immorality, and become drug addicts and drunkards, jobless and both incapable and unwilling to earn a living. Bound by these sins, they can’t resist temptation to commit a crime, thus often finding themselves behind the bars. Families fall apart, and the little ones become the inmates of boarding schools and orphanages. According to statistics, there are more orphans in Belarus today than it has been right after the World War II, a deplorable fact.
There are above 30.000 little inmates of boarding schools today. They are cared for and taught by the experienced staff. But the absence of irreplaceable parental love and grave psychological traumas tells, and, however hard the devoted workers of these establishments try to heal the wounds in children’s hearts, the majority of inmates fail to adapt to the adult life awaiting them outside the orphanages. Having no solid guidelines, they fall prey to various temptations, and again, imprisonment is a destiny of many of them. Wicked parents abandon their children, depriving them of love and care, and they easily go astray, destroying both themselves and our society. Vicious circle. And the only way out of it is holding Christian values. Only God is able to transform human heart and fill it with love instead of hatred, forgiveness instead of thirst for revenge, peace instead of rebellion. That is a way of disrupting that bondage of sin, and that is why we deem it vital to get all the children's homes throughout Belarus supplied with Christian literature so that every little one might be reached with the life-transforming Word of God and know the truth. The nurses and teachers, too, will receive an opportunity to learn of God's will and His commandments, which will conduce a great deal to changing the whole atmosphere in the orphanages.
