HEAL MY SOUL

Aim of the project:

Renewing the drug-addicts and alcoholics through the living Word of God, and helping the returned convicts readjust themselves to civil life.

Description:

Today there are about 120,000 drug addicts in Belarus and many alcohol addicts, whose number is beyond calculation. Constituting a considerable part of our society, such people live and work among us. For the past decade many rehabilitation centers have been founded with intent to help these people cope with their addiction and return to normal life. These centers’ work is a great contribution to the recovery of the Belarusian society, because the statistics shows that even one changed person can positively influence ten addicts from his old friends. Using various methods and actions, the centers provide social and psychological help to drug addicts. Yet drug and alcohol addiction are primarily spiritual problems. We understand that freedom from all those sins can only be reached through internal renewal and change of mind, which results from turning to God and whole-hearted repentance of sins. It is very important that all rehabilitation centers, located on the territory of our republic, would have the Holy Scriptures and other Christian literature, through which God would speak to the hearts of those people. The Bible Society is planning a long-term program of help to drug addicts through the active collaboration with rehabilitation centers, first of all with those church-based, and cooperating with the churches where the Bible is studied. These centers are in great need of spiritual literature, for the addicts themselves and for them that who deal with them directly, and the Bible Society is ready to offer such literature.

There is no legislation in Belarus regarding social help to the former inmates of penitentiary establishments, and their rehabilitation is a very acute problem. There are some rehabilitation centers being run by churches at the expense of the congregations’ members. The dedicated Christians ministering to this category of the population are hard up for spiritual literature, and we are seeking to help them so that the ex-convicts might find true freedom in Christ.
