Established in 1957, the home for the aged and disabled in Logoisk town, Minsk region, currently houses 204 dwellers, of which the male inmates constitute one third. Some people have been dwelling at the home for 30-40 years. Left with no housing and abandoned by their children, they found shelter here, many former prisoners among them. They are at the decline of their lives, and our state took over the responsibility for the providing for their old age. This state-run home is among the best in Belarus.

Bible Society pays great attention to this category of the Belarusians, supplying them with spiritual literature. One of the inmates named Svietlana more than once phoned up the Bible Society, asking us to come and bring along Christian books. When we arrived, we made acquaintance with Svietlana (photo) and presented her with the literature. This woman is chair bound for twenty years. She passed through a period of deep depression from 1991 to 1993, but thanks to the believers she met her life has transformed drastically. She accepted Christ, and peace and comfort filled her heart.

Svietlana introduced us to the director Nadezhda Ivanovna, and Igor Mikhailov, the Bible Society Executive Director, handed her the Bible as well as the set of the literature for the home.

The aged woman Sofya Nickalayevna thankfully accepted the gift and began reading the large printed Holy Scripture at once. An invalid, she's been at this home for twenty years, and the Word of God helps her to find consolation.

The director expressed thankfulness for the visit, and we made a promise to keep in touch with them in the future in order to render assistance to the people needing God's love and comfort so badly.
