Boarding school in Andreyevshchina
The Bible Society in Belarus keeps doing the project of rendering help to orphans housed by children‘s homes, boarding schools and social orphanages. The staff make trips to different regions of the country in order to reach the orphans with the Good News of God’s Word.
At the city of Orsha, Vitsiebsk region, harvest festival recently took place. At the entrance to the city there are two statues made of straw, which symbolizes rich harvest (photo, left).
But we realize that apart from daily bread the orphans are in great need for spiritual bread, and so we make a visit to Andreyevskaya boarding school situated on the skirts of Orsha.
The boarding school was founded in 1961, and now there are 110 inmates there ranging in age from 6 to 18. The majority of the children have parents who are deprived of their parental rights because of alcohol addition. So Anya, 16, (photo, right) has both parents, but her father is in prison, and mother has no job. Anya couldn’t live normally and go to school until she was taken to this state-run boarding school. There are two things that make Anya happy. First is that her father sent her some money, which means that the father remembers her and loves her. Second is that now at the boarding school’s library there will be interesting books from the Bible Society.

Natasha is also 16 (photo on the left). Since 6 she has been left without parents who abandoned her and never visited her. Unlike amiable and smiling Anya, Natasha is asocial and incommunicative, but we hope that God will touch the hearts of such children through the books we gave to the boarding school (photo on the right).
In the boarding school is integrated a social orphanage which harbors children for six months, and then either return home or go to the children’s homes. Olya,3, (photo, left) is an inmate of the social orphanage. Her mother is a prostitute on the roads. At the present time he mother’s whereabouts is unknown, but fortunately the girl will go to a foster family, not to the children’s home. The nurses and teachers will read the Children’s Bible for Olya, as she is yet unable to read. Olya used to stay alone, and so a separate room was assigned to her.
Many nurses of this orphanage after seeing an eyeful of so many misfortunes take the poor children to their own families and encircle them with care and love. Valentina Nickalayevna (photo below) is one of them. She took a four-year-old girl named Valya.

Sergey and Ilya (photo, left) both are 10. They made friends at the orphanage, and their friendship is at least partly makes up for lack of parental love. In addition, warm attitude on the part of the nurses will soften the wounded hearts of the kids.
