The Bible Society of Belarus published a book "Paul, the servant of God". This book was written by a Dutch author Piet Compaan, who for many years has collaborated with a charitable organization engaged in dealing with the hard-of-hearing children and helping them to make spiritual and physical progress. In cooperation with this organization, Piet Compaan has produced the videocassettes, which tell the Good News through the Bible stories and easily understandable games put in hand-language. Also, Piet Compaan is an author of the absorbing books he had written striving to reach the young hearts with a Good News. One of these book entitled "Paul, the servant of God" is specially designed for this particular category of children.
The book is richly illustrated by author's friend Maarten van Beferen, who is a school teacher of art by profession. Small maps the book contains underline the historical context of the events depicted, which conduces to reality perception. The main hero of the book is Paul the Apostle, a founder of the churches consisting of converted gentiles. The life of Paul is traced from his childhood through to his imprisonment and execution in Rome. An enemy of Christ, a prosperous man with a bright future reserved for him, Paul had transformed into an active and fatigueless Christian preacher. He travels the whole ancient world, bearing persecutions, losses and bitter hardships for the sake of Christ. Thanks to his ministry many people find truth and meaning of life.
"Paul, the servant of God" is written in a simple language, with a minimum of abstract words and expressions. For description of the events, the present-tense verbs are mainly used. Taking into consideration a small vocabulary of this specific category of children, the author repeatedly uses recognizable patterns and functional reiterations, avoiding using a wide variety as concerns the words order. The book will also be interesting to the Sunday schools teachers and the primary school children. Copies number: 2,500
