Visit to "Tabeya" charitable mission

The Bible Society in Belarus actively develops cooperation with the organizations and missions serving the Belarusian nation, the needy and socially unprotected being their first priority. On March, 15 the Bible Society workers took trip to Mohiliov city, where the charitable mission “Tabeya” is doing its ministry.

The trip proved very useful. We received a hearty welcome, and acquainted ourselves with different aspects of their ministry. We brought along a large set of Christian literature, which was gratefully accepted (see photo #1). Igor Mikhailov, the Bible Society Director told Pavel Brodov, the Head of the “Tabeya” mission in detail about the new editions available from the Bible Society (see photo #2).

Daily bread and spiritual food

One of the activities of the mission is providing the needy with feeding for free. Those having no means of living can come and get substantial food. Feed-in is taking place during a month twice a year (see photos ##3,4,5,6,7,8).

Anatoly Grigorievich (61) (see photo #9) has gone through many hardships in his life. All his life he had lived in a timbered house together with his wife, son and daughter. Once at night the house caught fire. The daughter awoke Anatoly, and they all but the wife escaped being burnt. The wife was paralyzed, and, unable to move, she died in the fire. Tears were streaming down Anatoly’s cheeks when he told this tragic story. His soul is injured, Christ alone can comfort this injured soul.

Tamara Vasiljevna (see photo #10) had worked as a nurse all her life. She is now a pensioner, but her life has not become easier. Her son is a drunkard, and he takes away all her old age pension, leaving her with no supplies. Pavel Brodov met this poor woman at the market while she was picking cabbage leaves. Now Tamara Vasilyevna has an opportunity to get her daily food as well as satisfy her spiritual hunger.

Visit to Mohiliov specialized training school

The teenagers of 14 to 18 age bracket are there at this school. Despite their young age these children have already become wayward minors. Stealing, violence, savage fighting- being involved in these things they find themselves on a slippery slope leading to committing more serious crimes, and to help them stop and think about their live, about God is the matter of extreme importance. They are still children, their hearts are not completely hardened, and every opportunity must be caught to show them love, to help them and tell them about new life in Christ.

There are 142 boys at the school, and many of them would like to get Bibles and other Christian literature. That is why our gift was very acceptable. The school administration too were happy to get the books from the Bible Society (see photos ##1,2).

Sasha (17) (see photo #3) is there for two years already. His mother has neither visited him nor wrote a letter for this time. Mother’s alcohol addiction is why the boy found himself at this establishment. She drunk heavily, neglecting her own son, and Sasha, having nothing to satisfy hunger had become involved in food stealing.

Roman (18) (see photo #4) is a social orphan, whose parents are deprived of parental rights. Like Sasha, he too was caught while stealing.

They both (see photo #5) were very happy to receive such wonderful books. Bibles and other spiritual books are now available for all inmates. Young hearts are responsive to both good and evil, and, unfortunately, some teenagers already got drug addiction, became alcoholics, and one boy committed murder.

Visit to Mohiliov correctional facility #4

1000 inmates are imprisoned in there. We paid a visit together with the staff members of “Tabeya” (see photo #6), and gave over the set of spiritual literature. We talked to the administration of the prison and reached an agreement with them about broadcasting the NT audiocassettes through the local broadcasting network so that the prisoners in every cell might hear the Good News.
