Boarding home for the old and less able, Zhukhovichi

How different and sometime tragic was the fate of each inmate of this home! They visited church services from time to time by tradition, but they rarely read the Scriptures if at all, and now that they have received the books from the Bible Society, they are very thankful and willingly narrate their stories.

Alexandra Petrouna, 90 (photo, right). She married in 1940, and a year later her husband went to the front- the Great Patriotic War broke out in 1941. They made promise to each other that they would be faithful to each other and never marry again whatever happens. The husband died in the war near Berlin. Alexandra kept the promise and didn’t remarry, even though she was very attractive and men proposed to her more than once. All her life she worked as a milker.

Nadzezhda Alexandrauna, 67 (photo, left). She is a second group invalid. Her mother was a singer of church’s choir. She died when giving birth to her 13th child in 1944. The mother’s name was Nadezhda, and when dying she asked to name the daughter after her own name (Nadezhda is translated as Hope). Her father married another woman, but the stepmother treated her stepdaughter ill.

Vladimir Ivanovich, 60 лет (photo, right). In the past he lived in Russia. He has been declared invalid 17 years ago. Once he got his feet wet when he was in boots, came home and fell asleep in the cold, which resulted in having his feet frostbitten.
